The city of Woods Cross, UT, is located in Davis County, north of Salt Lake City along Interstate 15. Woods Cross covers a land area of 13.5 square miles at an elevation of almost 4,800 feet, home to a population of roughly 44,000 people.
Settled in 1847, Woods Cross became Utah’s second settlement after Salt Lake City. The community was originally known as Sessions Settlement and North Canyon Ward until it took the title of Woods Cross in 1855, named for the city in the Book of Mormon. Woods Cross was incorporated as a city in 1892, and the first electric lights arrived in 1907. Today, Main Street welcomes visitors with its many shops, and the city commemorates its history every July with the annual Handcart Days celebration.
